Summary
Most of the time the word is being used to expess extreem emotions and displeasure about some thing, or being very angry . The person is usually God but some times it is about people. It is a punishment for doing some thine or for not doing some thing. It can be expressed through your mouth. Only Jesus can pay for the wrath of God for us .

Part 2 background and purpose for the book
Colossians
2.1The occasion for writting

the anitial occasion for paul writting the Cloosions is the arival of Epaphras in Rome.He Braught the new that there was heretical teaching in Colosse. The teachings were thretening hte churches well being. They were introducing othre thing into salvation that were wrong and they were mixing other stuff with christiainity. Paul wrote to the Cloosse from prison. The fact that Paul wrote the letter to the Colosse shows that the faulse teaching was rally infultrating them and he wanted to make sure that they knew the truth .

2.4Purpose for this passage within the book

The purpose For the hole book it seems was to Tell the Colosse church to keep their eyes and Jesus and stay away from the haricy teachings. The particula scripture Colossians 3:1-10 is to remind the people that are reading it to turn from doing things they did before that were wrong. Paul reminds the colosse that they have put off the old and are renewed on the knowadge of God (v10) Paul tells them that they are raised with christ so the we should be looking to things above. This is important becaue it focouses them on jesus Paul is saying that because we are dead and than alive in christ we should be like him.

Part3 the message
3.1 statement

1.paul says that we are raised with christ and should seek thinks that come from about and from him.
2.We are hidden in christ and the old things that we used to do should we should stop doing.

3.If we don't change than Gods wrath will fall on us .
4.Lying is not a good idea
5.God has given us a new way of being and given us knowlegde of him.

Part 3.2
Covenent Period. This passage is in the New Covenent .

Part 3.3Verse by verse explination

Translation of Colossians 3:1-10(ESV)
1.Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Paul begins with thereforebecause he wants to connectthis vers to the proceeding one. That we are rased with christ. Just like in Romans 8:11 We died with christ tacking our sins now we are alive spiritually with him. We are to keep looing at the things that God is doing and on Christ. He he seeted in heaven on the right side of God.

2.Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth,
We are to think about the things that are God has for us the things that are not in this world. God wants to chang our thinging so that it is different than the world. Like in Romans 8:6 thinking of spiritual things is life to the spirit.

3.for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Just like in Gal 2:20 we are spirituly dead., but we can be alive in christ because he died for us. And when he was rased we were to so we are in him in the spirit. Paul wanted to remind the colossians of this in this verse that they are hidden in chirst.

4.When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him.
When christ apppears the most common ways that ot is used in the scriputures it measns to un cover that with was hidden or to reveal . Other usesare to be manifested reveal. When christ is reaveled then we to will be reaveled ase he is in glory. Jesus is connectted to us because he died for us.
Romans 8:17 says that we are heir with christ and shall in herit what he has so we will get his glory when he appears.

5.So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry.
Paul is talking about putting to death what ever belongs to the earth that is negetive Just like in Romans 6:6. We are to turn away from sinful things . This does not mean that our body is bad but that the nature that causes the thing that he is mentiong is bad, things like sexuals immorality and impurity.

6.Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on sons of disobedience.
Bescuse you used to connect the last verse to this one. Paul is say that if you do the things in the last versre Gods wrath is comming. I thes 5:9 also talks about Gods wrath. Normally wrath is referd to as a stong negetive feeling that can lead to an action anger. Paul want them to be worned that it is seriouse to be disobediant. Roamans 13:5 also talks about the wrath of God, And that wrath is near.

7.You also lived your lives in this way at one time, when you used to live among them.
This is verse connects verses 6 and 8 together because paul is warning us not to live like the people live in the world in doing things wrong this verse attaches the way together. This is also telling us to remember that we did not always know what we do now when we lived without jesus. In pr2:15 talks about having a cruckid walk and that is what we used to have.

8.But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.
I think that this verse is saying that you should not have this kind of bad language comming out of your mouth. In Eph4:31 It is stated that we should put away from you all speach that is mentioined in this verse.
9.Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices

Paul does not want us to lie because God doesn't want us to. If we have put off the old man than we have put away its bad behavours and that includes lying. Rom6:6 it is talking obout getting rid of the old man just like this verse. In Pro 12:22 it talks about lying lips being an abomination to God and if you ar fallowing God you want to please him. The verse in Pro also says that faithfulness is a delight.

10 and have been clothed with the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the imag e of the one who created it.
The fact that this starts with and connects it to the previous verse. When it talks about the new man tha verse is refering to being new in the spirit . In 2Cor5:17 we see the same theme of getting a new spirit or man. The man is being renewed in Knowledge.Ps 51:10 talks about renewing your heart and getting a new spirit. When you are new your spirit is clean. When you are like the one that created you are like christ because he is God and it is also stated in 2 cor 3:18 I t says that we will look like God in his is and that is the image of our creater.

Part 3.4 Concluding regards
1.paul wanted to remind the colossians that they are alive in christ.
2.they are new people and to keep their eyes on God and things above.
3. He also wanted them to get rid of there old wicked way and act differently then they used to.
4.If you did not change you will get Gods Wrath

Part 4 the responce
It seem that paul was writting to the believers on Colosse and wanted them to remember who they were and not to get swayed by other teaching or fall back into their old ways. It was a letter to churches and christians. The writter wanted to encourage and warn the readers. Paul wanted to see the Colossians to change their actions . He wanted to warn them that Gods wrath would come for those who were disobediant. It seemes like he wanted them to keep their focous on God and heavenly things and remember that they are new creations in christ. He says this in the verse above.

Today there is a need to be reminded of who we are in christ just like in the Collossians did. We need to Remember to think of things about and not the earthly things having. As christians we should turn away form the things that Paul mentions like not liying , being imoral and more. The promise that christ will apear and reveal his glory is what a lot of us want and it is stated in this passage that it will come . It appear to me that this would apply To every day life because We need to have our focous in the right place.

4.2 Personal Response

God used this verse to challenge where I put my focouse. Am I seeking him in every thing real or am I getting distracted with other things. I felt incouraged by the parts that Paul talks about being a new man in vs 10. I some times need reminding . I am really wanting to get a closer relationship with God and know him better. This verse lists some things that help. It is always good to be reminded to put away things that were in the past. I feel that sometimes behavour that not of God sneek up on me and than I have to get rid of them and this verse really shows that point. I am renewed in christ my creater and that is really cool.
